5 FACTORS THAT PROVE YOU CAN STILL SAIL AROUND THE WORLD!

The number of people who tell us they are "too old to sail" and believe they have figuratively missed the boat alarms us. In recent years, this worry has increased in frequency. Why? We believe we know the solution.

Over 50s make about 80% of cruisers. The majority of sailors are retirees, though we do know several 90+ year old cruisers. Age is not a barrier to sailing; in fact, we would argue that it is a strength.

You should be aware of the following five things about us:

DO NOT GIVE IN TO THE HYPE

Contrary to what you may think after watching sailing channels, most cruisers are either middle-aged or embarking on their voyages in their golden years. 80 percent of cruisers are "ancient,".

Although it's great that young people are finding methods to get out and do it, the truth is that they are the minority. Most older sailors don't enjoy creating movies about their travels, but many of these younger cruisers do. As a result, the internet presents an inaccurate picture of who is truly out there cruising.

NOT ROCKET SCIENCE IS IT

Sailing is not challenging. Most of it is just using common sense and being cautious. You don't need to have ideal sail trim when you start out unless you're going to be racing. The specifics will become clearer as you proceed. Still gaining knowledge!

EXPERIENCE MATTER

When it comes to cruising, money is a major concern. Although keeping your boat in good condition is crucial, even well-kept boats sometimes experience issues that can be costly to fix. It might also be expensive to store your boat in a marina or boatyard. Despite your careful planning, cruising will cost more than you anticipate. But here, more experienced sailors triumph. You eliminate that worry if you have a regular pension or rental income from real estate.

CRUISING KEEPS YOU YOUNG

You may start working on that before you board since it's physical life and it's important to be somewhat healthy.

You don't have to be an athlete, but it helps to have some stamina for lengthy journeys and some agility on the deck. As you maintain your balance on a rolling deck, all that line-pulling and core stability build your body. Your body is kept active by getting in and out of boats, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and kayaking.

If you're concerned about your endurance, do as many cruisers during lengthy journeys (it's a relatively minor percentage of sailing) and ask staff to assist you. Typically, friends or family will be more than happy to accompany you. If not, there are always people that are eager to serve as crew for you.

SAILING IS MENTALLY DEMANDING AS WELL

Uncountable new skills need to be refined and developed. Planning and navigating a route helps people focus. You have to work hard to keep up with the always evolving IT breakthroughs and new onboard technology. Exercise learning all those new skills.

Above mentioned factors prove that you can still sail around the world. If you are looking for the best club then Convair Sailing Club is good to experience sailing in San Diego.
